The optical design of the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary is based on the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art, known for its excellent optical performance throughout its zoom range. Faithful to the central concept of the Contemporary line, the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary has developed to provide an appropriate balance of performance and portability, and as such, this high-opening standard zoom offers exceptional image quality that rivals the Art line optics for daily use. Based on state-of-the-art technology, the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary has an advanced optical design that includes three aspherical elements, two FLDs and two SLD elements. In spite of using less elements in total than the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art, its design offers a complete correction of the axial chromatic aberration and the aberration of the sagital comma, aberrations that cannot be corrected in the camera, allowing users to create images that are uniformly sharp from the center to the edges of the frame. Its design prevents ghost images (ghosting), and the use of Super Multilayer and Nanoporous coatings minimizes flashes and allows to offer high contrast results in contrasting conditions. It also has a coating to repel water and oil on the front of the optic.
